Flushed not one but two this morning.
On Saturday, there were still a lot of FOX SPARROWS at Huntley Meadows: I
saw about 12, mostly in the Woodcock Meadow. Lots of birds were singing,
including hermit thrush, swamp sparrow, and golden-crowned kinglet (a song I
rarely hear). Other notables:
2 calling turkeys
2 interacting eagles
Lots of phoebes (at least 8)
Snipe (flock of 5 flying over the wetland)
Lincoln's sparrow
And I Sunday I heard and then saw a catbird in a back yard in Takoma Park.
Was it a wintering bird or an early migrant?
