The hummingbird with the wounded tongue reminded me of a Violet-crowned
Hummingbird I saw in February in Patagonia, Arizona. Its tongue was
broken and bent and hung out of its mouth, looking entirely useless. But
the bird had been seen regularly at the same feeder for months and was
somehow doing just fine. Good luck to this one, too.
