The inch or two of crusty snow has the yard alive with birds this morning.
Yellow rumps have been here all winter this year and they are aggressive
at the platform feeder and the suet feeder. The first year I have ever seen
them on my feeder. I have mixed in a little niger with the sunflower
seeds this winter.
Other birds of note this morning:
2 male towhee
3 fox sparrows
2 chipping sparrows
1 coopers hawk made a pass through the yard creating havoc.
Red Shouldered sat in a tree watching the spectacle
Numerous:
brown headed cowbirds
song sparrows
white throats
juncos (over 50)
cardinals
gold finches (many starting to molt)
house finches
grackles
red winged blackbirds
starlings
crows
blue jays
It is still snowing and I have been out 3 times already this morning
to fill feeders and spread seed under bushes. This will be a completely
non-productive day for me because I will spend it looking out the windows to
see what shows up.
