The Yellow-crowned Night-Heron reported two days ago at Bear Creek Lake
State Park was still there as of this morning. Mary Anna Wilcox and I
arrived lakeside by the rental boat dock at 9:30 am. First I thought we
were a bit late in the morning to spot the bird and particularly when we
stepped from my car to hear a radio blasting from the boat rental hut.
As we walked to down to the shore, a tracker erupted behind us creating as
much or more racket then the radio. We immediately spotted the bird across
the lake from the boat dock where it was spotted on Monday. It seems
unruffled by the raucous coming from our side of the shore. After watching
the bird for about a half-hour a third commotion erupted (weedeater) causing
the bird to fly back in the cove yet landing on a downed branch still within
sight.
