Bird behavior is so much fun, especially when it seems to have human
overtones!
Just had a pair of Carolina Wrens at my feeder. The female (I assume) was
at the suet feeder when the male flew to the top of the pole with a very
skinny caterpillar writhing in his beak. He puffed up his breast, spread
his wings, and sang a muffled "chirpity-chirpity," seeming to proudly show
off his caterpillar coup. A House Finch flew up as if to grab the
caterpillar but Mr. Wren was onto him and just as the finch was within
reach, deftly evaded him.
I have never seen this behavior, but then birds are always surprising me!
