A little open water straight out from the marina.
Mostly frozen.
950 Canada Geese
1 snow goose
5 ruddy ducks
6 ring-necked ducks
82 mallards
2 fly-over american merganser females
about 15 ring-billed gulls
no grebe, coot, black duck, redheads, or scaup.
1 goose was a weird hybrid-lookin'-thing. Body
looked like Canada Goose but with a browner
breast, same color as body. Beak was pink with a
black nail. Head had white around the beak, and a
speckling of white and brown on the face and
cheeks.
No neck-tagged geese.
Teens had a hermit thrush here on Saturday 1/24.
Occoquan (town), water mostly frozen: 11:00ish
2200 Canada Geese
6 ring-necked duck
9 hooded merganser
12 mallard
ring-billed, herring, and great black-backed
gulls
4 of the geese had readable orange or yellow neck
bands which I will report to Bird Banding Lab.
Leesylvania State Park
I wanted to go, but it was closed. Roads are too
icy. Might be closed tomorrow too, or even
longer, they said. I am curious about how many
eagles are there. Last year at this time, over
100. A flock of about 20 redwings and 10 robins
was in the trees at the entrance road.

1 hermit thrush eating holly berries
had a house wren here last Tuesday (1/20)
