Whilst reporting the Hughlett Point marbled godwits yesterday I announced the
presence of some additional shorebirds, including several "short-billed
dowagers". Over the years I have met with any number of dowagers while walking
the trails and beaches of Hughlett, some of whom may in fact have been
short-billed, but the birds I meant to be report yesterday were, of course,
dowitchers, almost certainly penniless. I beg your pardon.
