I spent about 45 min on the deck in the back of the house this morning
before leaving on vacation. The birds were pretty active. We had a 1/2" of rain
last nite and it was a nice early morning. In the order as observed:
morning dove 3
bluebird 5
cedar waxwing 3
mockingbird 3 - 1juvenile
blue gray gnatcatchers 4-2 juveniles
indigo bunting 2
black-billed cuckoo 1- have been hearing it for 10 days or so yellow-billed
as well-mornings and evenings but not this morning
Rufus sided towhee 4 - 3 juvenile
green heron
great blue heron
wood duck-he still thinks he's a goose but there is starting to be friction
between him and the other 3 juvenile geese in his family-adopted momma goose
really favors him, though
canada goose 20+
rough winged swallow 2- usually barn and tree swallows as well
American crow 6
catbird 1
yellow breasted chat 1
tufted titmouse 4
yellow warbler 1
carolina chickadee 2
downy woodpecker 2
red bellied woodpecker 1
brown thrasher 2 juvenile-troublemakers
white eyed vireo 2
hooded warbler 1 bright male
blue jay 6
common grackle 60+ in 3 large groups flying high overhead
turkey vulture 2 usually black vultures as well but not this morning
hairy woodpecker
barred owl
almost forgot ruby throated humingbird 15+constantly buzz-bombing
Looking forward to seeing the Migration movie in Charlottesville when I get
