All,
I looked at two sources for info on diet of RSHA. The first: Life Histories
of North American Birds of Prey Part I by Arthur Cleveland Bent stated on
bottom of page 191
"the mamal food recorded includes mice of vairous kinds, shrews, moles,
squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, muskrats, opossums and skunks."
Bent doesn't specify which species of squirrel were found. Bent also states
in previous paragraph that 65% of diet is small rodents and 2% poultry. This
info was presented as a quote from a study of Dr. A.K. Fisher 1893.
On the flip side --------------------------
The Birders Handbook stated that the diet of RSHA consisted of "rodents,
snakes, lizards, insects, and occassional snail"
I am surprised to find such a decrepancy beween these two sources......
