Like Shirley (see Facebook) I had my binocs when I stopped to vote early this
morning, however the line was longer than I've ever seen it. Decided to stop
back after birding when the line would be shorter (& it was). Met Peggy Lyons
and Susan Stanton and we headed to Johnson Farm/Orchard (a newer stop on the
Birding and Wildlife Trail in Bedford County). We started birding on State Road
680 as soon as we turned off US 460 and continued to see birds all the way to
and as we walked around the farm.
We were looking for sparrows and weren't disappointed as we saw ten sparrow
species; best ones were probably two Fox Sparrows at the farm. Another surprise
was a pair of Hooded Mergansers on a farm pond on SR 680. EBird checklist
follows.
