This AM while doing some of my usual breeding bird survey point counts for
Audubon Society of Northern Virginia I found these two unseen birds singing in
different locations along Rocky Branch (a wooded tributary of Difficult Run) in
Oakton. The warbler was further up the creek from where I found one a couple of
years ago. This is the first time I have had the grosbeak on these surveys.
This
made me feel a lot better after a depressing AM yesterday at OakMarr where it
seems there are no longer any resident acadian flycatchers, louisiana
waterthrushes, or ovenbirds which have gradually disappeared over the years.
I don't know if these birds are breeders, or if they are late migrants, or
maybe
young birds who weren't able to find territories in suitable habitats elsewhere.
All the best
