At 4:15 this afternoon I was surprised by a female PAINTED BUNTING that
showed up at a bird feeder outside my home office window. It was eating
millet. This is the first PABU I have seen in about two years. For a few
years I had visits from male and female PABUs during fall and winter, usually
for no more than 4-5 days at a time. I did not see a male today. In the past
they PABUs have always shown up around wintry weather and last night we had
some freezing rain in the area. This is in a neighborhood adjacent to the
I-64/Battlefield Blvd. interchange.
