Birders,
Very good migration thru my yard in King George this weekend despite the rain.
Most of the activity has been occurring in the late afternoon hours between 3
and 6pm- and during this time there's so much movement it's difficult to keep
up. Highlights since Friday include:
Black-and-white Warbler
American Redstart
Cape May Warbler (most exciting for me, 5 total- 1 male, 2 female, 2 immature)
Northern Parula
Blackburnian Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Magnolia Warbler
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Tennessee Warbler
Blackpoll Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Veery
Swainson's Thrush
Baltimore Oriole
Summer Tanager
Cedar Waxwing (bigger groups)
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (a surprise yesterday evening- seems early)
I've had most of the warblers in the Mimosa (or silk) trees at the top of my
property- the Cape May Warblers hang out here all day (they've been here almost
a week now). I never really noticed how absolutely buzzing these trees are with
insect activity before- and to think I thought of cutting them down this summer
because they hang so far into the street. I'm so glad I didn't!
Good birds,
