I'm so sorry to hear that! Do you know any details, like how did it get
donated to the Smithsonian? How did you find out? I was there and saw it
and when I saw it, it was standing on one leg practically the whole time I
was there.

VA Birders,
I received word today that the Great White Heron that has been seen
sporadically near Fisher's Hill was hit by a car. The specimen has been
collected and will be given to the Smithsonian. Just wanted to let
everyone know so folks don't waste a trip out there to look for it.
