I birded today with the Lynchburg Bird Club (Jim Elder, Karl Huebner, Mark
Johnson, Peggy Lyons, JoAnne Pierce, Norm Porter, Gene Sattler, and Sandra
Weigand) in southern Campbell County. Highlights included: a female Northern
HARRIER flying over Route 637; a Red-shouldered Hawk on a nest off SR 637 (or
maybe it was 633); 3 Broad-winged Hawks - 2 were seen flying over SR 637 & 1
was circling over Fairview Square parking lot when we got back to Lynchburg; 1
SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 2 FOS LESSER YELLOWLEGS, & 2 WILSON'S SNIPE at a farm pond
on Route 637 (across from the 'Free Turnips' sign); 7 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS (also
near the 'Free Turnips' farm - if I'm not mistaken this is the largest flock
seen in the Lynchburg area this year); but only three FOS warbler species: 4
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS; 3 PRAIRIE WARBLERS; 1 COMMON YELLOWTHROAT. We saw 58
species.
Complete eBird species list follows.
