While monitoring the bluebird trail at the Dulles Greenway Wetlands
Mitigation Project this evening, I saw a beautiful male Hooded Merganser
resting in one of the pools. This seems quite late to see them. As the
water was quite high, I saw no shorebirds. It was good to hear and see 2 to
3 Willow Flycatchers newly returned, that breed there regularly. Two
calling Ravens flew overhead, and the Bald Eagle pair perched near the nest
where they are tending 3 nestlings (not sure if they fledged yet).
On Sunday, I had 2 late White-crowned Sparrows in the scrubby pasture behind
my house.
Good birding,
