There has been so much rain her in Southside Virginia and I am wondering if
this may have some effect on bird behavior. I have been feeding birds for the
past 25 years but have noticed the last month or so there are fewer and fewer
songbirds coming to the feeders in my rural area. Last night I took all of the
feeders down and washed them with hot soapy water, then dipped them in a clorox
and water solution and hung them back up to dry. Keeping the feeders clean will
at least help with disease transmission if that is the problem. Before I could
get the food in the feeders this morning the birds I haven't seen in about a
month were hanging onto the empty feeders. I rushed to fill them and then the
rascals all disappeared again, and I haven't seen them for hours. Of course it
is raining again her today.
