On the 18th our first House Wren arrived and almost immediately began
filling one of the bird houses with sticks. It's amazing how he can get a
stick that is more than twice as long as he is and thread it through the
whole. The first hummingbird finally arrived on Monday the 20th - a week
late. The first Catbird of the year was working the suet feeder early this
morning. Then this evening as we sat on the deck we found three Chimney
Swifts overhead.
I haven't seen a Junco since Saturday but I still have plenty of Siskins. I
counted nine yesterday and six today.
At Troutville School today, instead of the fighting Thrashers that greeted
me last week, three Rough-winged Swallows flew in and sat on the wires above
the road.
