Since Sunday, a Tufted TItmouse has been hanging around the feeders. Not a
unusual bird in general, but this is the first time I've seen one on the
property. It's possible that other birders have seen it up here, but I don't
recall seeing one up here for 5 years. Other birds at the feeder this morning
include BC chickadees, WB Nuthatches, Juncos, and Down Woodpeckers. Right now,
the snow is coming down so heavily that it appears to be snowing horizontally.
The temp was under 10 degrees this morning and the winds are still blowing,
though not at the speeds of yesterday. I have moved a feeder to the leeward
side of the house to offer the birds some protection. A couple of years ago, I
tried placing an electric water dog bowl out for both the dog and the birds,
but the temperatures were so cold that I wasn't able to keep water from
freezing even in that. I am hoping to get out later (maybe on snowshoes) but am
waiting for it to warm up a bit. I actually am somewhat concerned that this may
be the end of driving in for the winter- I don't think I'm ready for this!
