All,
The banding station at Airlie, in Fauquier County, turned up two hatch
year Canada Warblers and a hatch year Chestnut-sided Warbler this
morning. The previous three days of banding netted only resident birds
so there must have been a push last night. We also caught an adult
Hooded Warbler which while gorgeous might have been a local bird.
Warbler migration has begun on the Piedmont!
Not migration related but pretty exciting was a juvenile Red-shouldered
Hawk that got caught in one of the mist nets. It was expertly removed
by one of the members of the MAPS class, Kaycee Lichliter, and released
unharmed and still hungry.
