Thanks for the input, those who responded. The sound I found online for an
Acadian Flycatcher's call notes was a lot louder than what I heard. What I
heard was close but not as loud/forceful, and the two notes were at the
same pitch and volume - a quiet, even, yet consistent,"tick-et." I heard it
along the James River late yesterday morning.
Also, I've been trying to find out what bird sings like a slightly more
musical cardinal. Instead of "CHEE-er," it was more like "CHEE-ee-er" (the
"chee" wasn't as long as a cardinal's). The bird was small and I never got
a good look at it. It also made a metallic-sounding "chip." It was in the
edge of dense trees, was small, and I think it was white on the belly. I've
looked up every warbler in the state and couldn't find an exact match
(there I did hear a recording of one of the waterthrushes that was somewhat
similar.
