I saw both crossbills this morning at Blandy. I heard a white-winged at about
7:15am, then saw one perched on top of a conifer at about 10:00am. At 8:30 a
flock of 6 red crossbills flew over, heading north towards Rt. 50. I tried to
find a spot where they might have landed but without success. I had no luck
with redpolls and I dipped on the shrike, but I did not try real hard for it.
Other finches encountered were house and purple finches, pine siskin, and
American goldfinch.
