I heard a scarlet tanager singing while I was eating breakfast this morning. I
later took a walk along a power line right-of-way near my house and migrants
were numerous. Most were yellow-rumped warblers, but I also saw or heard pine,
prairie and palm warblers, and northern parulas. Also seen were a dozen rusty
blackbirds, many ruby-crowned kinglets, chipping and field sparrows, pine
siskins, and two flocks of laughing gulls, totalling over 40 birds.
