This morning, in the northern lagoon at Hughlett Point NAP. lower Northern
Neck: 11 short-billed dowitchers (all griseus as far as I could tell), 28
greater yellow legs, 4 lesser yellowlegs, 53 least sandpipers, 17 killdeer.
Also great blue and green herons, many osprey, double-crested cormorants,
royal terns and a clapper rail walking about in the open. Due, I guess, to
the drought and heat the water level in this lagoon is down about a foot
from the level it maintained all winter and spring, exposing lots of mud
flats.
