Howdy VA-Birders,
Here at Flint Hill School and Oak Marr Park, because of end-of-quarter tasks I
was unable to get out as often as I wanted to, but I found the following new
birds for my local patch for this year.

Oak Marr golf-course1 Eastern Phoebe Apr 3 Oak Marr woods
Pine Warbler: 1 heard singing in the Oak Marr pines April 1; 3 seen April 2; 5

Eastern Towhee singing outside my house on FHS East campus Mar 30 and Apr 3;
another singing at Oak Marr (edge of woods and driving range) Mar 30.
2 Chipping Sparrows: Oak Marr next to Rec Center, Apr 1
1 Pine Siskin: Apr 3, perched briefly in top of a blooming red maple
Other noteworthy birds:Female Cooper's Hawk chasing away a male (genders
assumed by size) over the 123 X Jermantown intersection Apr 2
Agitated Cooper's Hawk calling in the pines near where it nested a few years
ago at Oak Marr Apr 3
3 Red-breasted Nuthatches Apr 3 still hanging out in the mixed species flock in
the Oak Marr pines adjacent to FHS west campus.4 Tree Swallows flying over Apr

Oak Marr pines Apr 3
2 yellow-bellied sapsuckers in hardwood forest of Oak Marr, Apr 2, chased downy
away from fresh sap wells, 1 Apr 3 on same tree as yesterdayNo hermit thrush or
winter wren found.
Also saw some marbled salamander tadpoles in a pool of a side creek where I see
them every year. (This is also the only place I have ever seen a salamander
break off its tail to escape the grasp of a snake, many years ago.)
No toads singing/mating yet.
All the bestFred Frederick D. Atwood
