I was teleworking today, when at about noon my wife informed me that the trees
in the neighborhood were filled with blackbirds of some sort. Our Newington
Forest neighborhood has a lot of mature trees, largely between cul-de-sacs, and
they were literally dripping Common Grackles. Based on the hundreds I could see
from my yard, the flock must have numbered in the thousands. The Grackles were
moving leisurely through the trees, chattering all the while. Some descended to
the ground apparently looking for food, but most would perch for a bit, then
fly on a few hundred feet to another tree. All were moving North - go figure.
