I saw a warbler today at James River Park (42nd Street) that I'm not 100%
sure of. It LOOKED brown on top, plain white below, with a black(ish?) eye
stripe and a white eyebrow with a small bill. I saw it in a tangle of
vines, low to the ground, in a very overgrown - and thus darker - area. Can
an immature Tennessee Warbler appear all brown on top with poor light? I've
also looked at many pictures of Palm Warblers and some look very much like
this, but have streaks on the side which I didn't see on this one. I'm
pretty sure an adult Palm flew out a few minutes later. I only saw this one
from the front but it has yellow only on the throat. I got distracted by a
Blackpoll that someone else saw and the (second) bird was gone. Thoughts on
this?
BTW, it was a 10 warbler day today (if you count this bird). Others were:
Blackpoll, Canadian (3), Common Yellowthroat, Redstart (6 - 3 males, 3
females), Prothonotary, Black and White, Black throated Blue, Parula, and
Chestnut-sided. Also had a late Ceder Waxwing.
