Only had half the day free today so I spent a few
hours this afternoon at the route 3 ponds near
King George. The highlights were a lesser
black-backed gull, (the first record I know of
for the county, though surely they are regular
here) and a significant change in the local
waterfowl population such as more hooded
mergansers, fewer dabbling ducks, and many more
geese including 3 cackling geese, and 1 snow
goose. Since I was there at dusk, I hung around
hoping for short-eared owls in the areas where I
saw the harriers, but saw none.
