Hi Susan, & All,
Found the adaware instructions requested by you and previously kindly sent to
this list by Joan Ann.
Wasn't I quick!!
With me and all my files and all that!
See below.
Cheers,
Tony.

 Hi to all
Here is the information on the Ad aware scripts that work with jaws that can
be downloaded from
www.accessibleprograms.com
It is a little long winded but explains everything in detail.

Using AdAware and the AdAware Scripts.
AdAware Scripts version 1.2 is designed to work with AdAware SE personal
edition version 1.06 and greatly improves the accessibility of the program.
The
scripts work best with Jaws 5.0 or later. They are mostly functional with
Jaws 4.51 and earlier, except that the list views cannot be read, including
the
one that displays the list of spyware found, but in those versions of Jaws
you can mark all spyware for deletion by pressing control+m and that usually
works quite well. The scripts work best with a color quality setting of 32
bits in the Control panel/Display/Settings, which is the default setting for
many computers. If you don't have 32 bits, the program will still be mostly
functional.

After you launch the AdAware program with the AdAware scripts installed, you
will first arrive at the Status screen, which is the main program window,
and
the screen that you will return to after performing scans and other tasks.
You will start out on the Status button which you press to bring you back to
the Status screen from other parts of the program. The hotkey for the Status
button is control+shift+s (hold down the control key and the shift key then
press s). If the Status button is pressed while already on the Status
screen, Jaws will read the status information visible on the screen, such as
which
definition file is loaded and the date that you performed your lasgt scan.

By repeatedly pressing Tab you can move to various other buttons such as the
Scan now button and the Web update button. Some of the most important
buttons
have Jaws hotkeys attached to them that you can press to immediately take
you to other parts of the program. To hear the list of available Jaws
hotkeys,
press Insert+h.

Scanning.
Since this is the most important thing you will do with AdAware, let's begin
with how to perform a scan. Several screens are used in the scanning
process,
and you move from one screen to another by pressing the "Next" button.

To begin with, you press control+s or press the Scan now or Start buttonm,
and you will be taken to the Scan mode screen (sometimes called the Scan
preparation
screen). Here you will find a set of radio buttons that allows you to select
which scan mode you want to use for your scan. If you want to tab around and
explore this screen, you may return to the Scan mode radio buttons by
pressing control+r. If this is the first time you are running a scan you
should arrow
down to "Perform full system scan" which does a thorough scan of all the
files on your computer, and it takes a considerable amount of time to
complete.
In subsequent scans, you can choose "Perform smart scan" which is the one
selected by default. The smart scan only takes a few minutes, and usually is
adequate to find most spyware.

Then you press the "Next" button by pressing control+n. AdAware will begin
scanning your system, and you will at times hear Jaws announce which kinds
of
items are being scanned. You can monitor the number of objects that have
been scanned at any time by pressing control+o, or you can hear the number
of
critical objects found by pressing control+shift+o. You can cancel a running
scan by pressing control+shift+c. When the scan is finished, you should hear
something like "Scan complete screen, 15 new critical objects, press control
n to continue" and you may also hear a noise that sounds like a ray gun from
an old Science fiction movie.

On the Scan complete screen, if you wish you can press the Scan summary
button or its hotkey control+u to hear information about the different kinds
of
items that were scanned. When you are ready to proceed, press the "Next
button (control+n).

You will then be taken to the Scanning results screen which has four tabs:
the Scan summary tab, the Critical objects tab, the Negligible objects tab
and
the Scan log tab. Note that the Critical objects tab will appear here only
if at least 1 new Critical object was found during the scan. The Scan
summary
tab shows the total number of critical objects and the number of negligible
objects found during the scan. The Critical objects tab shows a list of all
spyware found during the scan. The Negligible objects tab shows a list of
items that are not spyware, but things like MRU (most recently used) lists
which
are lists of the documents and files that you have accessed while using your
computer recently. You would normally only want to delete these lists if you
share your computer with other people and you don't want them to see what
documents and files you have been using. If that's not a concern to you, you
don't need to bother deleting the Negligible objects. The Scan log tab shows
a detailed report on what was scanned during the scan.

You move from one tab to another by pressing the RightArrow and LeftArrow
keys. You will start out on the Scan summary tab, and in most cases you will
want
to press the RightArrow key to move to the Critical objects tab. Then if you
want to get everything done quickly, you can press control+m to mark all
spyware
in the list for deletion, then press the "Next" button with control+n to
delete the spyware from your computer.

But let's take a look at the Critical objects list. Press tab once and you
will land on a list view control that shows each spyware item on a separate
line
with both its category and name. You can also move directly to this list
view from anywhere on the screen by pressing control+shift+l. You can arrow
up
and down the list and manually select or unselect any item for deletion by
pressing the space bar. You can also do a right mouse click by pressing the
applications key and a context menu will appear. Select the first item in
the context menu, "Item details" if you want to see more detailed
information
about the current spyware item. If you select "Add to ignore list", all
selected spyware will be added to the Ignore list, and in future scans
AdAware
will know that you don't want to delete these items and they won't show up
in your scanning results. there are two other important menu items, one lets
you select all items in the Critical objects list, and the other lets you
unselect all items in the list.

Now let's leave the context menu and return again to the Critical objects
list. Spyware varies widely in how much of a threat it is to your computer.
The
least offensive spyware is the tracking cookie, which web sites place in
your cookies folder and whenever you visit there site, they will know that
you
have visited their site before. No personal identifiable information can be
found through a cookie, and in fact in some cases they are desireable, such
as on the Google web site, your search preferences are stored in a cookie.
But the cookies in the critical objects list are normally items that
Lavasoft
has determined are from companies with self serving interests, and usually
you can just delete them all.

Other spyware items are much more intrusive and can actually degrade the
performance of your computer or cause it to behave in a way that you don't
want.
In most cases you can mark all spyware in the list for deletion. Once you
have made your selections, you are ready to delete the spyware from your
computer.
Press the "Next" button (control+n), and you will receive a confirmation
dialog, you press ok and the spyware will be removed, and then you will be
returned
to the Status screen.

The Quarantined objects list and the Ignore list.
By Default, all spyware that you delete goes into the Quarantined objects
list which gives you the chance to restore a spyware item that you deleted.
There
are some programs which actually require some spyware components to be
installed on your computer in order for the software to work properly, and
it might
be worth it to you to leave that spyware so you can use the program. If
after deleting the spyware, your program doesn't work, you may go to the
Quarantined
objects screen by pressing control+q, then locating the last item that was
quarantined, then click restore. You will also periodically want to clean
out
old items from the Quarantine list that are at least a week old by arrowing
to them and pressing the delete key.

From the Status screen you can view the Ignore list by pressing control+i,
then press control+l to quickly move to the Ignore list view, and you will
find
all items in your ignore list displayed if any exist. If you want to remove
items from the Ignore list, press the space bar to select the items then
press
the delete key.

The settings screen.
You can go to the settings screen by pressing control+t. This is actually
seven screens in one: the General settings screen, the Scan settings screen,
the
Advanced settings screen, the Startup settings screen, The Default settings
screen, the Interface settings screen and the Tweak settings screen. You can
click on any one of seven buttons to open these screens. They are located in
the buttons pane on the left side of your screen, and the controls such as
checkboxes for whichever button has been pressed are displayed in the
settings controls pane on the right side. You can switch back and forth from
the
buttons pane to the settings controls pane by pressing the Jaws hotkey f6.

The settings screen options are used to customize the way that AdAware works
to suit your own needs. For example in the General settings screen you can
specify how many days go by before you are prompted to check the Lavasoft
server to see if a new definitions file is available, and in the Interface
settings
screen you can get rid of the ray gun noise and specify a different wav file
to be played after the scan is complete. After making any change to a
setting,
tab to the proceed button and press enter to activate the change and return
to the Status screen. If you decide not to make any changes, you need to
press
alt+f4 to exit the Settings screen and return to the Status screen. Note
that some of the settings checkboxes cannot be changed, which means that
that
option is not available in the personal edition of AdAware. For example,
none of the Startup settings are available in the personal edition.

Web update.
One of the key features of AdAware is the ability to download new
definitions files from the Lavasoft server. New definitions are usually
released at least
twice a month, and you'll want to have the latest definitions to be able to
scan for the latest spyware.

To update your definitions, first you need to be connected to your Internet
Service Provider, then press the Web update button (control+w) and you will
be taken to the Web update screen. Press tab to get to the Connect button
and press enter. AdAware will then connect to the Lavasoft server and then
determine
if there is a new definitions file or other updates available for your
computer. If one is found, you will be asked if you want to download the
file. Press
ok and the download process will begin. You will hear the progress of the
download, and hear the message "Web update complete" when it is finished. It
could take up to a few minutes, depending on the speed of your connection.
Press the Finish button (control+f) and you are all done, and will be
returned
to the Status screen. If you enter the Web update screen, but decide not to
check for new definitions, you will need to press alt+f4 to exit the Web
Update
screen and return to the Status screen.
