Hi All, Below is the text from a notice I received about the upcoming VICS weekend. For those who don't know what VICS stands for it means, "Visually Impaired Computer Society" and do a great job in giving tuition in beginner, intermediate and advanced computing skills. I would urge anyone who has an interest in computers to consider going on this weekend over in Castlebar. Read on for the details of the upcoming date; If we don't support such opportunities when they become available then we will have none in the future to go too. Dear list, I've been asked, on behalf of the Chair Person of VICS, to post the below announcement. The VICS committee would like to announce and cordially invite everyone to the AGM and Technology Training event which this year takes the form of a weekend event. There will be plenty of opportunity to socialise and network with people as well as gaining a lot of great training/presentations. We are confirming some very exciting speakers and workshops for the Saturday so we'll announce details of those over the coming weeks as they become available. We would also like the membership to be involved in ideas or suggestions for the day, and therefore we are presently looking for two additional presentations. If there is anyone who can help by way of either sharing some interesting technology and willing to do a presentation or has useful information to share which can help then please either email here or email off list to chairperson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:chairperson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> and let us know of your ideas. We really do hope to see many of you there and would encourage you all to come along, no matter what level you are at as there will be something for everyone, and please let anyone who is not a member but might have an interest in computers and technology know that they are warmly welcomed and encouraged to come along too as this is going to be not only a really informative and supportive event but also a really enjoyable one socially as well. The date for this weekend is going to be from Friday 19th to Sunday the 21st of September 2014 and will be held at the Harlequin hotel in Castlebar Mayo. We have never done anything in this part of the country before so felt it would be nice to do something different and outside of Dublin. The Friday evening will give people, especially new people, a chance to meet and chat in a relaxed environment before attending the main day on the Saturday. We are, however, also asking people to arrive on the Friday evening, so as to enable us to get up and running promptly on Saturday morning. The Sunday will also be another opportunity for people to network and chat in a relaxed environment, maybe to get help/tips on things or find out more about some of the previous days presentations, or even to ask about VICS membership. People will be welcomed to stay as long as they like on the Sunday but we would encourage you to try and stay for some of it if possible. There will be assistance and sighted guides available on the Saturday to those who may require them or for people who are not as confident in an unfamiliar place. There is a designated grass relief area close to the hotel for people with guide dogs too. the cost of the weekend event is a very reasonable 109 euro per person sharing and this includes 2 nights bed and breakfast and also dinner on the Saturday evening. A single supplement of 25 euro per night is required for people not sharing, so if there is anyone willing to share then this would be the best option. We would appreciate it if you would inform us of your interest to attend this event by Monday 11th August so we can let the hotel know numbers etc. Please contact Martin Fleming if you would like to attend, he can be contacted at martinfleming01@xxxxxxxxxx <mailto:martinfleming01@xxxxxxxxxx> , and he will be able to provide further details of the hotel and booking information. Thanks for reading this slightly lengthy message and we look forward to hopefully seeing you all there.
