Hi Paul and all you iPod users
I am still wanting to try independently to transfer my data from PC to iPad. I sort of have done this which sounds like anonsense and it is really but I just haven't done it right. In terms of my music, now on my iPad it is saying the names of CDs that were in My Music and which I had imported in to iTunes. However when I double tap to play it just says downloading. As for photos there are none transferred over. Paul on another list did tell me the steps for going through sync to iPad from my PC using iTunes but I have clearly done something wrong as step 5 cannot be completed or so I am told by my screen reader. Now if I try and repeat the process it is very quickly going to step 4 and staying there for some time and again I am getting the step 5 error. I would like somehow to be able to refresh this process and try again. Any suggestions please? ----- Original Message ----- From: "NCBI Support" <support@xxxxxxx>

Eleanor,

To unlock the screen, there is an area down at the bottom left corner of your IPad screen where when you tap it twice with one finger it will unlock. The screen curtain is a setting that when activated it will cover over the entire screen and sighted persons will now be on a similar level as ourselves when using the device as the entire screen will be blanked out with this curtain. I suppose if you wanted to keep prying eyes away from what you are doing on a train or somewhere you could also invoke the screen curtain.

Paul.

Paul, what is a screen curtain? Perhaps it is the desktop. I don't even know how to unlock the screen. I have found the home button. Think there is some kind of switch on top right side but did not want to touch anything. Do I have to purchase all apps or does it come with some? For example if I want to read a word document and a pdf document do I have to purchase Word or Office and Adobie Acrobat. How do I use the touch screen keyboard? In fact, in short, can I set it up myself? I have speech enabled which I think is great and I tried the touch screen in the shop and after that it was a Must Have!

I said a few days ago or a week ago on this list about getting VAT off im UK in Apple Stores. I purchased at another large department store and told them about Apple's VAT exemtion policy for the blind and got same here in UK. Hope same will apply im Ireland though with such stringent recent austerity in the Budget one wonders. Maybe people could at least apply to the VAT exemption office in Limerick or Tipp. Sorry not sure which County.

Hi Eleanor,

1. To simply mute the apple speech do a "Three finger double tap" somewhere on the touch screen. 2. To unmute the speech, do a "Three finger double tap" quickly on the screen. 3. To turn off the voice completely, press the "Home key" three times quickly.
4. To turn on the speech again press the "Home key" three times quickly.
5. To turn on the screen curtain, do a "Three finger triple tap" quickly on the touch screen. 6. To remove the screen curtain, do a "Three finger triple tap" quickly on the touch screen.

Paul.

OK all, I've taken the plunge, I vowed never to purchase an Apple product and in particular never to have a touch screen device. Tonight I am the proud owner of the iPad!!! Haven't a clue. Where's a good place to start? I know how to turn on Voice Over from the tactile Home Screen button which I think is the on/off switch too though when I try to turn it off nothing happens. Also speech says screen locked. Is this the list for me to ask questions or do I need to go to another list?

Eleanor
