There are plenty of nifty features heading to iOS 10
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/apple/feature/a794812/ios-10-update-download
-release-date-beta-features-compatible-devices-and-everything-you-need-to-kn
ow/>  this autumn, with the latest revelation being that it will help iPhone
users to donate their organs with ease.

Apple is adding the new feature to its pre-installed Health app (which you
can kind of delete off your phone
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/apple/news/a798288/apple-delete-pre-installe
d-iphone-apps/> ), allowing you to sign up to become an organ, eye and
tissue donor "with just a few taps".

Registrations submitted on the iPhone

straight to the National Donate Life Registry. The feature will be available
in the fall this year when iOS 10 is launched, although the software will
also be available via a public beta

ios-10-and-macos-sierra-early/>  later this month.

Organ donation has been a longstanding problem within the US, with Apple CEO
Tim Cook telling The AP that the problem hit home for him after the death of
the company's co-founder Steve Jobs in 2011.

Jobs suffered from a rare type of pancreatic cancer, with Cook famously
offering part of his own liver to Jobs due to the "excruciating" wait.

Apple isn't the first company to offer the option, as Facebook has allowed
users to sign up as organ donors on their timelines since 2012. Founder Mark
Zuckerberg said that he was also inspired by Jobs' circumstances.

"With the updated Health app, we're providing education and awareness about
organ donation and making it easier than ever to register. It's a simple
process that takes just a few seconds and could help save up to eight
lives," said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer, in a press
statement
