Hi all

There have been huge developments in the area of mobile phone technology over
the last few years and, there is now a wide choice of phones that are
accessible with different operating systems available to people with sight loss
or who have impaired vision.

With this in mind, VICS in collaboration with the rehabilitation centre of NCBI
decided to run a mobile devices awareness event to let people know the various
choices that exist and to give people the opportunity to try out this
technology for themselves. The event will be held at the Rehabilitation
Training Centre, at NCBI's head office, on Whitworth Road, in Drumcondra in
Dublin, on Saturday the 7th of May and will start at 11 AM sharp.

There will be 4 presentations covering the following topics:
the IPhone using zoom
the IPhone using Voiceover
Accessibility in the Android OS
Using talks on a symbian handset.

The day will be very informative and, there will be opportunities for you to
ask questions and have a look at the technology for yourselves.

Lunch will be provided to people attending the day. If you wish to attend,
please contact Stuart Lawler no later than 5:00 PM on Tuesday 3rd May. His
phone number is 087 9926360 or, you can e-mail him at stuart.lawler@xxxxxxx

The mobile event will be followed by the VICS annual General Meeting which will
start at 2:30. I would urge as many members of VICS as possible to attend the
meeting. It is a great opportunity for you to put your ideas forward as to
what you would like to see VICS doing in the coming year. There are a number
of vacancies to be filled on the committee this year so, if you are interested
in putting your name forward and you are unable to attend the meeting, please
contact the secretary of VICS, Esmond Walshe at esmond.walshe@xxxxxxxxx as soon
as possible.

I look forward to seeing you all on the day.

Joan Ann
Chairperson.
