We all have aken part in a bit of Facebook stalking, catching up on how our
ex or that cute one from back in the day is getting on with their life.
But it turns out that Facebook is stalking you right back, and this is set to
go up another creepy notch in the coming weeks.
In a bid to show advertisers that their ads actually persuade you to visit
physical stores and buy more stuff, Facebook is to start tracking your
movements to monitor what shops you actually visit.
How? Well, if you've got your phone's location-based services turned on and
run the Facebook app, you're just asking to be monitored really, aren't you?
Don't worry, it's not quite as scary or Big Brothery as it first sounds
though. Yes, retailers will be able to track how many people exposed to their
Facebook-based apps went on to visit brick and mortar shops, but it won't be
able to monitor your individual movements.
The new feature, which you're unlikely to notice (well, your wallet might),
has already been trialled, according to Gizmodo, and will be rolled out more
widely in the coming months.
