It is a type of app for want of a better expression, and yes it can be
installed on your computer
Dropbox is a means of sharing files be it with others or your different
computers, e.g. Your desk Top and your Lap Top. I have used it where I have
wanted to pass on very large files, too large to be sent via e-mail. With
Dropbox I have been able to send direct download links. Another use I have for
it is that I can put important files in it which means I can access them over
the Internet irrespective of where I am in the world. I do of course require an
Internet connection for that purpose. Dropbox is free up to 2GB of space though
I can stand corrected on that
It is plenty for me but some people buy more space. While you can Google and
download Dropbox to your PC it is necessary to Register with Dropbox. This will
be your e-mail address which is your Username and then you set a Password also.

Just a note about how you send files to others on this list. Please if it's
a Microsoft Word document or a plain text document then either just attach
it to the email and send directly to the group here or else copy and paste
the text into an email and send into the list. Sometimes people aren't
either familiar with how dropbox works or for whatever other reason can't
seem to get a file to download from it so please in the case of text
documents use the preferred methods above.
