Hi Petrina, To have jaws set to default of reading words, do the following. 1. While on the desktop press keys "insert + number 6". This is the six just above the letters. 2. When the configuration manager opens up, press keys, "control, shift + letter D" to open the default configuration file. 3. Now go into the "set options menu" with alt + S and arrow down to "User settings". Here press enter key. 4. Use the tab key till you come to a list box which says "typing echo, characters" and then arrow up or down till you get words. 5. Now tab key to the ok button and press the enter key. 6. Press keys "control + S" to save your changes and then press keys "alt + F4" to close the configuration manager. Now you're done. Problem is if I close or minimise the programme andbring it up again JAWS goes back into reading by letters. Can I have JAWS reading out as words as a default and if so how can it be done.
