These instructions help guide you in how to perform a scan using the Avast icon which is on your desktops. 1. With your computer open up and no applications running, go to the desktop with keys: winkey + M. 2. While on the desktop, press key: "A" for avast. When you have the avast icon highlighted, press enter on it or double left click with the mouse. 3. Wait for Avast to open up, as it opens it will attempt to run a memory scan, we will cancel this scan by tabbing over to where it says "stop memory scan", press the enter key on this button or left click once. 4. Wait for this screen to go away and you should have a new screen pop up. If you are using jaws you might hear jaws say something like the following: "Avast simple user interface, dummy checkbox checked". Once you hear this then you will know you are in the correct area. Notes: This will be generally what will be the default screen for Avast but there is another screen which you could use but which would need to be configured. Why would you use the alternative screen?, well some would say it is easier to use but for now this will be fine and for those using current versions of jaws this typical screen Avast produces can be worked well. 5. With our default Avast screen now open up we can get started on beginning our scan of the computer.. To get started, just press the : Application key, third key out from right of the spacebar. It may be different on certain laptops. Mouse users can just click anywhere in the centre of the avast screen. 6. From the menu that opens up, the first item you will hear is "start scan". Just press the right arrow here once to where it says: "select scan area". 7. Press the right arrow again and it will say: local disks", just press the enter key on this choice or left mouse click once to select it. 8. Once we have selected the local disks, we need to press the application key again and this time arrow right then arrow down to the option that says, "select scan level". Right arrow in here and make a selection. 9. Arrow down to the choice that I would recommend:"thorough" and press the enter key. 10. Once you have made this choice, we are now ready to begin the actual scan so once again, press the application key and right arrow then down arrow to the option of: "start scan", just hit enter on this or left mouse click once to begin the scanning process. Notes: How long a scan takes can vary depending on how much files you have on the computer and also if you have external USB drives containing a lot of material. Generally anywhere from 2 hours to 4 is not unusual so be patient and good hunting. Paul. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. We are a community of 5.7 million users fighting spam.
