Hi All, I thought I would pass along this item which i received from a work colleague. It talks about the ScannR which is firstly a scanning machine and can scan a variety of items, books, papers, magazines etc. I only now also discovered that it can be used as a computer so read on for more information. I don't use one of these devices myself but you could contact one of the I.T staff in NCBI if you wished to know more about it. -----Original Message----- From: trainingandsupport@xxxxxxx [mailto:trainingandsupport@xxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Maureen Lanigan Sent: 21 January 2008 11:43 To: Paul Traynor Subject: [trainingandsupport] ScannaR - general info {01} Hello all, Just to say that I followed up on Sharon's tip from a meeting some time ago re removing the back panel from a ScannaR to reveal standard PC connections. I plugged in a montor, keyboard and mouse and turned on the ScannaR. Windows 2000 Professional loads with IE5, Outlook Express and Accessories (Wordpad, Games, etc.) as standard. The ScannaR program is in the StartUp list but when I exit from it (using Alt F4), I can use the ScannaR as a standard PC. Jude plugged in his 3 mobile broadband (USB) and we went surfing! I had thought of running Thunder and/or Lightning from a memory stick but ... my confidence ran out at that point in case I mucked up any ScannaR settings. This particular ScannaR doesn't have an in-built CD drive or dial-up modem - it does have two USB slots and a connection for broadband modem. System spec: 40 GB hard disk (15GB reserved for data), 256 MB RAM, VIA Nehemiah AT/At comptible processor chip. If a service user had a ScannaR and wished to use a PC for basic word processing, Internet, e-mail, games - it's all there for the cost of a monitor, mouse and keyboard (assuming installation of a free screen reader and/or magnifier). This was new to me so I thought I'd pass it on. Best wishes, Maureen. ******************************************************************** NOTICE: The information contained in this email and any attachments is confidential and may be privileged.
