Almost just before I read your post and after a trawl found that very helpful
tutorial of yours first posted last December.
I happened to hit on the apps key and I get an option to open in Wavepad.
Now "different strokes" as you say so is there a way of selecting a piece to
cut without timing it do you know?
I am happy to work with the instructions you provided but perhaps a different
way too would be no harm.
after nearly 9 months of your tutorial (and possible upgrades) there may be
such.

Cutting unwanted section from the beginning of a track.
1 I am working on a particular track, mine is called 'Japanese relax'. Hey
what can I tell you , different folks and all that.
The track is 5 minutes 22 seconds long , but there is 16 seconds
approximately of applause or noise or rubbish that I just want to get rid of so
it will begin smoothly.
2 so, we know the area so to speak that I want to get rid of or cut
begins at 0 and ends at 16 seconds.
How do I know this? 3 possible ways:
Well I timed it with my stopwatch or by counting
or I can see the elapsed time on my media player when I play the Japanese
relax track.
Or if you are using winamp
Pressing control and j while the track is playing jaws announces the time
position along the track when you pressed it.
e.g. start a track playing and after a while press control and j if jaws says
35 seconds that's how long into the track you pressed the control and j key.
Wait a few seconds and Jaws will also announce the entire length of the track.
3 so now I know where to begin and end the cut.
4 now we open wavepad to do our work.
A Message appears saying trial is expiring, as usual, just tab to don't show
special offers.
5 press alt and f and arrow down to open.
A dialogue box appears and jaws says something like
Open audio file file name edit
6 use your alt and I in the dialogue box to locate the track you want to
work on.
Mine was in my documents, my music, Japanese.
Then tab to open so wavepad can open it.
7 wavepad tells you it is loading the audio file source. This may take a few
seconds.
8 the track you want to work on is now ready to do so in wavepad.
Can you remember, in this case we wanted to get rid of or cut the first 16
seconds of the track.
Start time is 0:00:00:00
Meaning 0 hours 0 minutes 0 seconds and 0 micro seconds.
The end time then is 16 seconds or
0:00:16:00
Think of it as highlighting or selecting the part you want to cut out.
5 press control and g.
This is where we will specifically tell wavepad the piece we want to edit or
cut in this case.
6 a dialogue box opens asking for start and end times.
Yeah you are way ahead of me.
Tab until you hear start time edit and then, in this case we want it to start
at 0:00:00:00
Press tab to the end time edit box and using your arrows you can edit or
retype 00:00:16
this is the 16 seconds portion we want to cut that had the unwanted silence,
applause or noise.
7 tab to preview and you will hear what the piece you are cutting sounds
like, in other words the preview lets you hear what will be cut.
Tab to ok to tell wavepad you are happy with the area of cut you have
decided.
8 visually the piece is now seen on screen too .
Pressing control and x now means the area you want to cut is then cut from
the original track.
9 you need to save your work i.e. the track with the 16 seconds of
'rubbish gone'.
10 press control and s to save
then tab to ok.
11 close the wavepad program.
12 Now if you go to the location of the piece we just worked on and play it,
the unwanted piece will not be there.

p.s. you might like to make this your new mantra.
What I select is the thing I am working on
But What I cut is going to be gone.

Have been trawling but could not come up with an answer 'cept for a mouse
user.
How does someone using a screen reader edit out surplus from a track at the
beginning/end using Wavepad?
