Hi Mike, and all, This will be the last post from me regarding this matter! Now, I have been consistently "arguing" here and elsewhere about training, and can indeed demonstrate that I am clear and unambivolent in that belief! I ffor one am still a learner or "novice" so bearing that in mind I will outline now my position in greater detail re my request for some who may not have got what I was ttrying to say! As indicated in my original email there will be times that people, even myself, might need to post a question. Someone could need an answer fairly immediately, or as you say somebody would be new to the list and indeed computing and would find accessing the history possibly difficult. Don't forget that there are a number of tutorials which the moderator may have to keep putting out, in reply to questions and that is time-consuming I should imagine! I would like tutorials to bee updated obviously and put out on the list before going in to the history! In short let us have both: questions to the list as well as a "history of items"! You will find, as they say that more or less "we are singing from the same hymn sheet" I wanting the history option along with "questions to the list" where necessary! My original mail was sparked by mails from someone asking the very same question twice in the space of about a week or two, and two different dates! Trust that clarifies matters. Now I will get back to enjoying the remainder of my Sunday as I hope you will also! Sorry for the long mail! All the best, Tony Sweeney.----- Original Message ----- From: Mike Meaney To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, March 11, 2007 1:27 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: [Spam] Accessing the archives! Tony, In that case lets keep it as it is wonderful and refreshing to hear so many new people on the list. Unfortunately we tend to forget at times where we started, as the saying goes, Eaten bread is soon forgotten. Hi Mike, "I recognise that that won't be possible in all cases", was the last line in my email! Cheers, Tony. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mike Meaney To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, March 09, 2007 7:52 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: [Spam] Accessing the archives! Hello Paul and Tony, I'm not sure that I agree with Tony's point, after all it was something like this that caused the new list to start. Did we not say that no question should be regarded as too simple to answer.. I think we might put some people off from asking questions. They may have trouble accessing the archives. By all means put it into place but remember that from time to time we are going to have new members and a comment like that might cause more harm than good. Tony I quite understand your point, but lets not put people in the position that they are afraid to ask any question. all the best Mike Meaney ----- Original Message ----- From: Lists To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, March 09, 2007 4:51 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: [Spam] Accessing the archives! Hi Tony, I think your point is very valid but as of this moment I haven't had time to set up any history of past items. I will however look into it and come back to you on it so thank you for bringing this to our attention as it is a good idea. Hi Paul, and All, I notice that there are a couple of questions being repeated in close proximity on the list! Would it be an idea to let listers have the info on how to access archived material on this list? Before someone wishing to pose a question they could go to the archives first to see if they could possibly find the answer to their query there! I recognize that that won't be possible in all cases! All the best, Tony Sweeney.
