Select, copy and paste
On occasions, when browsing HTML content, you might just stumble upon a
snippet of information that you may want to use or retain as a reference in
a document. This could be a word, a sentence, paragraph or numerous
paragraphs of data.
To extract the data you want from the web page three processes have to be
performed. These are selecting, copying and pasting. For most users who are
visually impaired the difficult task is in the selecting of the data because
the process is heavily reliant on the use of the mouse. However, virtual
focus and, in particular, its mouse emulation mode hot keys means the
process can be accomplished easily via the keyboard.
So, here is what to do:
1. Position the virtual focus on the starting character of the data to
be selected.
Note: the starting character is slightly different to the starting line. If
you have navigated to the starting line you should move the virtual focus
right so the initial letter of the line is selected.
2. Press RIGHT CONTROL + HOME to mark the starting position.
This hot key is virtual focus’s mouse pointer drag emulation action.
3. Move the virtual focus to the last character in the block of data to
be selected.
4. Press RIGHT CONTROL + END to mark the end position.
This hot key is virtual focus’s mouse pointer drop emulation action and when
activated the specified area should appear highlighted on the web page.
5. Press CONTROL + C to copy the selected data to the clipboard.
6. Open or switch to the application you want to copy the data too.
7. Press CONTROL + V to paste the selected data into the target
application.
And that’s it. The selecting, copying and pasting process is complete. You
will have the information you want in the application you want! As a final
tip, if the data you want is the complete content of the given HTML page
then pressing CONTROL + A will select the entire page ready for copying and
pasting.
If you want to backtrack and review the data that has been selected on the
web page then this can be easily done by going into selection virtual focus
mode. This special mode restricts the movement of the virtual focus to the
area that has been selected. To activate selection virtual focus mode press
LEFT CONTROL + LEFT SHIFT + NUMPAD MINUS or, if you are using the default
function key hot key set then press LEFT CONTROL + LEFT SHIFT + F4. To exit
selection virtual focus mode press NUMPAD MINUS or when using the Function
Key hot key set press F4.
