[Creating A Windows 7 Backup Image] 1. To begin creating a backup image of Windows 7, open the "Start menu" and in the search box type in, Backup. This will give you Backup and restore as the highlighted result, press the "Enter key" on this. When the Backup and restore dialogue box opens up it will have the following items which can be accessed using the "tab key" or mouse. *. Backup now, alt + B. *. Manage Space link. *. Turn on schedule link. *. Change settings link. *. Select another backup to restore files from link. *. Recover system settings or your computer link. *. Create a system image link. *. Create a repair disc link. *. Action centre link. *. Easy transfer link. *. Help link. 2. Press the "Tab key" till you reach the option that says "Create a system image link" and press the spacebar to open. 3. A new dialogue box opens up asking the question, "Where do you want to make your backup too?". You have some choices to make here in relation to the location you intend to use in order to create your backup image. Important: For screen reader users the new dialogue box that pops up requesting you to choose a backup location needs to be accessed using your screen reader cursor such as the jaws, NVDA or Window Eyes cursor. You cannot use the tab key or arrow keys to make a selection of location for your restore media. If you are familiar with the jaws OCR feature then this is another way to access the "Radio buttons" that indicate to you your possible choices. The choices you have are; *. Hard drives, any available external USB drives will be presented here . *. CD/DVD media, here you can choose to use DVDS for your image. 4. Use the "Left Mouse Click" of your screen reader software to select a radio button of your choice. Important: It is very important that you think carefully about what and where you want to backup. If you are choosing your Windows 7 early in its new stage chances are it won't be very big and could maybe fit onto a few DVDS nicely. If it is a system that's been on your computer for a long time and you have over that time installed many different programs chances are that your Windows system and associated applications, media files and other files will have out-grown a reasonable amount of DVDS. In this case it would be best to invest in a large capacity USB hard drive say something in the size range of "500 Gigabytes" or higher depending on your budget. 5. Now with that point outlined to you we will continue. Once you have made a selection for your backup location then the remaining buttons of "Next and cancel" will become available to you using your tab key. Tab over to next and press the spacebar. Notes: You cannot backup your system to the main hard drive windows is running on nor can you back up the hard drive that you intend to have your windows system backed up onto. 6. On the next screen that comes up you will have more choices to make. Here you have to decide what drives you wish to backup. By default the Windows System drive will already be checked as part of the over-all backup plan but you will have the option to select any other media attached to your computer such as other internal hard drives or USB media that you might wish to include in your backup. 7. Use your arrow keys to move through any available items that can be backed and use the "spacebar" to select any of the items. 8. When you have made your decisions and are happy about what you have chosen tab over to the "Next button" and press the spacebar to move to the next screen. In this final screen we have reached the point where we begin our backup to our previously chosen media. On this screen we have the following items; *. A list box containing the items we want backed up. *. The Start backup button. *. Cancel button. *. Back button. 9. If you have everything prepared and have made all the necessary decisions concerning your backup then press the "Tab key" till you reach the Start backup button and press the spacebar to begin. Now your backup gets underway, this process will take time depending on how much material has to be backed up so be patient with it. 10. When the process has completed you will have an OK button so press the spacebar on this to finish. You're backup is complete. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter.
