Unfortunately your tip Jackie didn't work for me, or maybe I'm doing it
incorrectly.
I went into contacts, I used the roter for "Headings", and swiped up and
down, and was told each time, "Headings not found"

Yes I agree it is the best way & still the same following 9 update. When I
checked router today it was no longer on Headings, possibbly as result of
update, Moved back to Headings & all is well. My concern was Skype which I
explained in an earlier mail & it is working fine. I have one query when I
open Skype my e-mail address comes up saying double tap to move, any ideas
how I deal with this? If mails come in for inbox while speaking on Skype
they are read outt which is annoying . I have only started using skype on
phone recently & clarity is much better than computer. Any suggestions

Hey All
i've seen from this list there is an issue using the table index in contacts
either using contacts or creating a new message.
the way i use the contacts is move my router to headings and simply swipe
down to the desired letter and then swipe right and i get the correct list
of names for the letter i've stopped at. This also works for looking for a
contact when creating a message or email. i much prefer this way rather than
using the table index i was never a fan of that way but i think it was IOS7
i had to use the table index because using the headings stopped in IOS7 so
maybe it could be a work around until this contact bug is fixed
