Final Stakeholder Conference "European Policies to Promote Sustainable Consumption Patterns" on 5th July, Brussels The research project "European Policies to Promote Sustainable Consumption Patterns" (EUPOPP), funded under the EU's 7th Framework Programme, is drawing to a close. At the EUPOPP Final Stakeholder Conference we will present our key findings to an audience of European stakeholders, including representatives of the Commission, the European Parliament, environmental and consumer NGOs, industry and the research community. The conference also serves to seek out the comments and contributions of an expert audience representing a large variety of point of views, experiences and comments. The conference takes place on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, from 10.30 to 16.45 (Reception) at the International Press Centre Brussels, Résidence Palace, Rue de la Loi 155, 1040 Brussels. Participation is free. The EUPOPP project has been carried out by a consortium of seven organisations which has evaluated a range of Sustainable Consumption (SC) policy instruments (including public procurement) from all European regions in the need areas of food and housing, and built scenarios on future impacts of SC instruments. The conference's objectives are to discuss the main project findings on sustainable consumption instrument effects, the sustainability potential of new SC instrument bundles and the transferability of SC instruments to other jurisdictions. We invite you to reflect these findings as well as the project's policy recommendations which refer, among others, to the EU perspectives of the new SCP Action Plan and to Rio+20. The conference is structured along three sessions: In the 1st session, we will present the reserach project and the two methodological building blocks of the SC instrument assessment we deployed. Particular emphasis is placed on the significance of specific context factors - including gender considerations - in SC policy making. In the 2nd session, project findings will be presented on the effects and success factors of a number of European sustainable consumption instruments and participants are invited to share their reflections on new bundles of policy instruments proposed by the EUPOPP project in the consumption areas of "food" and "housing" The 3rd session will address to what extent and under which conditions "best practice" instruments and experiences in SC policy making can be transferred between national contexts in the larger frame of the EU-27. Finally, a moderated roundtable discussion will bring together an expert panel and the participants to discuss the way forward in SC policy making, taking into account the EUPOPP results and policy recommendations.
