Dear Colleagues, Please help us to distribute this call in your networks. LAST MINUTE Call for Papers Conference of the European Society for Ecological Economics 2015 in Leeds, 30 June - 3 July 2015 Special Session: Degrowth and Technology Just like in the Ecological Economics community, two opposing positions with respect to technology are emerging in the Degrowth community: 1) The critical perspective is sceptical about technological development as it is seen to drive economic growth and cause environmental and social problems. 2) The enthusiastic perspective appreciates new technologies, such as open source programmes or DIY renewable energy production, for expanding human potential and protecting the environment through improved access to knowledge and energy, for example. As technologies usually meet controversy a number of questions arise: What technologies are needed for a Degrowth society? How do these technologies look like? Who decides on what technologies we need? How should we make use of them? The session aims to open the floor to an explorative discussion about such questions tackling the role of technology in a Degrowth society. We would cordially invite those interested in contributing to the debate to send us an abstract on work that is either in progress or planned, for consideration in our Special Session at next year’s Ecological Economics Conference in Leeds. Abstracts should be sent to petra.waechter@xxxxxxxxxx no later than Tuesday the 28th of October 2014. We aim to inform you about the acceptance of the abstract to our Special Session by the end of next week. Looking forward to your submissions Petra Wächter Melf-Hinrich Ehlers Christian Kerschner Melf-Hinrich Ehlers Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin Landwirtschaftlich-Gärtnerische Fakultät Fachgebiet Ressourcenökonomie 10099 Berlin, Germany email: melf-hinrich.ehlers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx skype: melfHE
