Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Chair of Environmental Policy Analysis of the University of Bern, has a vacancy for a 1-year

Postdoctoral Position in Water Policy Analysis

with possible extension of two more years. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also be expected to participate in the teaching programme at the University of Bern.

Research area: Current water policy regulation has to face new challenges such as the design of incentive instruments and collaborative management forms to address complex issues such as impacts from climate change or from diffuse pollution sources. The aim of the proposed research is to contribute to current water policy analysis in a multi-level governance and transboundary regulatory framework. It has a strong focus on relational and structural patterns of policy processes, and the investigation of independent variables such as information, knowledge transfer, awareness, capacity building and actors' policy preferences to investigate the adoption of new regulatory forms. In that context, the research aims at the development of longitudinal actor-based models in social network analysis (e.g. SIENA, ERGM etc.) and of other statistical tools in social sciences to support research on policy processes and the design of regulatory measures in national and international water policy and decision-making. A multi-level approach will be developed to translate policy network boundaries into geographical management units.

Your background: We are looking for a candidate who holds an PhD in political science with a strong interest in environmental sciences in general, and water policy in particular. Applicants should have a strong knowledge in statistics for social sciences and, ideally, be familiar with social network analysis, actor-based modeling and the treatment of longitudinal data. They should have a keen interest in environmental problems and in policy analysis questions, good knowledge of governance approaches and a strong command of German and English. Knowledge of GIS or other spatial computer system is a plus.

Your application: Please submit a full application that includes a motivation letter, a CV, two letters of recommendation, and a writing sample (e.g, a chapter from your PhD thesis, a seminar paper, a published article), to Prof. Dr. Karin Ingold, <karin.ingold@xxxxxxxx>.

The deadline for applications is August 30 or until the position is filled.
