I think the only way to do this "automagically" is to use a media player
(foobar2000, VLC, MediaMonkey, Amarok etc.) that can output to a certain device (yours),
either through WASAPI exclusive mode, or Kernel Streaming. That way the media player has
the opportunity to select the most appropriate format for the played back media without
any interference from windows audio server.
But with the "default" output through Windows Audio Server, I don't see how it
could be done. Maybe someone else on the list has ideas ?
