Hi Martin P! Welcome.
The same mechanism won't work for both XP and the older OSes. However, the
ac97 sample did at one time contain a way to expose multiple sliders for
multi-channel, with a topology-mixerline workaround. I believe that code may
still be in the sample.

Hi everyone,
There is a possibility to control different speaker volumes in a
multichannel device under windows XP, however under other OS like 98, ME,
and W2K only stereo speakers are visible by the windows mixer. Is there a
way to acces the different channels under those OS? Thanks all.
