When playing through DirectSound in Vista/7 there is clearly some form of peak limiter / compressor at work. As long as the music is well bellow 0dBFS the data pass through unmodified, however as soon as the level approaches 0dB, samples are being manipulated. I know that one can resort to WASAPI or KS to get around this, but for the regular folk with their Windows Media Players or iTunes - is there any way to disable this function? Disabling effects in audio device settings does not seem to help.
Any ideas? ****************** WDMAUDIODEV addresses: Post message: mailto:wdmaudiodev@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subscribe: mailto:wdmaudiodev-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=subscribe Unsubscribe: mailto:wdmaudiodev-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe Moderator: mailto:wdmaudiodev-moderators@xxxxxxxxxxxxx URL to WDMAUDIODEV page: http://www.wdmaudiodev.com/
