irrelevant nano-optimizations here. Your argument is perfectly valid
for 8051 processors with no pipelining and pitiful cycles times. It is
totally irrelevant in the modern x64 world.
We are talking about a comparison of instruction with a nominal cycle
about 40 against ONE cycle!!!
And modern CPU are able to manage SHORT JMP in optimal way.
Today's compilers are also able to rearrange code so that the divide
overlaps with other instructions, so the cost is heavily amortized.
Seriously, dude. You are focused on 20th Century concerns.
